Street Spirit Southend

This group has been set up to help those who, for whatever reason, find themselves having to sleep rough on the streets of Southend. We are a non-religious, non-political group of volunteers aiming to provide food, blankets, clothing and toiletries, time and friendship to those who need it.

We meet in Clarence Road car park at 8pm every Saturday night. We used to go out along the high street in search of rough sleepers, but word has got round amongst the homeless community and now they come to us!
They can stay for a chat and have a hot drink and a selection of snacks, and also take away with them cold drinks, fruit and breakfast items.

Harris and Hoole (the café at Tesco Extra, Prince Avenue, Westcliff) provide us with whatever food they have left over at closing time, and at 9pm Fish-a-liciouis (London Rd, Leigh-on-Sea) clear their counters for us. This is collected by our group members and brought along to the car park. The rest of the food, and also clothing, blankets, toiletries etc, are provided by us. We raise money by organising events, such as quiz nights, music events, sales etc. We also very gratefully accept donations!
